2019
Capturing and Indexing Rehearsals: The Design and Usage of a Digital Archive of Performing Arts
2015
International audience; Preserving the cultural heritage of the performing arts raises difficult and sensitive issues, as each performance is unique by nature and the juxtaposition between the performers and the audience cannot be easily recorded. In this paper, we report on an experimental research project to preserve another aspect of the performing arts—the history of their rehearsals. We have specifically designed non-intrusive video recording and on-site documentation techniques to make this process transparent to the creative crew, and have developed a complete workflow to publish the recorded video data and their corresponding meta-data online as Open Data using state-of-the-art audi…
Querying Dynamic and Context-Sensitive Metadata in Semantic Web
2005
RDF (core Semantic Web standard) is not originally appropriate for context representation, because of its initial focus on the ordinary Web resources, such as web pages, files, databases, services, etc., which structure and content are more or less stable. However, on the other hand, emerging industrial applications consider e.g. machines, processes, personnel, services for condition monitoring, remote diagnostics and maintenance, etc. to be specific classes of Web resources and thus a subject for semantic annotation. Such resources are naturally dynamic, not only from the point of view of changing values for some attributes (state of resource), but also from the point of view of changing “…
Schema-Based Visual Queries over Linked Data Endpoints
2019
We present the option to use the schema-based visual query tool ViziQuer over realistic Linked Data endpoints. We describe the tool meta-schema structure and the means for the endpoint schema retrieval both from an OWL ontology and from a SPARQL endpoint. We report on a store of the endpoint-specific schemas and the options to support the schema presentation to the end-user both as a class tree within the environment and as external visual diagram.
Faceted Search Over RDF-Based Knowledge Graphs
2016
Knowledge graphs such as Yago and Freebase have become a powerful asset for enhancing search, and are being intensively used in both academia and industry. Many existing knowledge graphs are either available as Linked Open Data, or they can be exported as RDF datasets enhanced with background knowledge in the form of an OWL 2 ontology. Faceted search is the de facto approach for exploratory search in many online applications, and has been recently proposed as a suitable paradigm for querying RDF repositories. In this paper, we provide rigorous theoretical underpinnings for faceted search in the context of RDFbased knowledge graphs enhanced with OWL 2 ontologies. We identify well-defined fra…
A framework for context-sensitive metadata description
2006
Expectations regarding the new generation of Web depend on the success of Semantic Web technology. Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a basis for explicit and machine-readable representation of semantics. However RDF is not suitable for describing dynamic and context-sensitive resources (eg. processes). We present the Context Description Framework (CDF) as an extension of the RDF by adding a 'TrueInContext' component to the basic RDF triple ('subject-predicate-object'), and consider contextual value as a container of RDF statements. We also add a probabilistic component, which allows multilevel contextual dependence descriptions as well as presumes possibility for Bayesian reasoning wi…
Knowledge Representation on the Web Revisited: The Case for Prototypes
2016
Recently, RDF and OWL have become the most common knowledge representation languages in use on the Web, propelled by the recommendation of the W3C. In this paper we examine an alternative way to represent knowledge based on Prototypes. This Prototype-based representation has different properties, which we argue to be more suitable for data sharing and reuse on the Web. Prototypes avoid the distinction between classes and instances and provide a means for object-based data sharing and reuse.
Integration, Bewertung und Nutzung heterogener Datenquellen mittels semantischer Werkzeuge
2017
Supporting Learning Activities in the Health Sector through Open Data
2015
The growing availability of Open Data for educational purposes is playing a key role in shaping and influencing the development of the learning processes. At the same time, Open Data have a particular potential in the health sector so that the major healthcare organizations, universities, colleges, and medical schools are in the process of creating high quality 'Open' education & training resources and tools. However, in this growing world of open health resources for educational purposes, the task of finding the right material can become very difficult mainly when using a general purpose search engine like google. Thus, to overcome this problem and facilitate the search and learning ac…
